Info You Need to Know

When: April 13, 2024 8:00 pm, show will run about 2 hours w/ an intermission

Where: Streb Lab for Action Mechanics (SLAM), 51 N. 1st St, Williamsburg Brooklyn

How much: $25 in advance, $30 at the door. Note: we sell out EVERY YEAR, and SLAM has a strict capacity. Tell your people to buy tickets the minute they’re available.

Special stuff:

  • Theme – The Greatest Show! Vintage circus gloriousness. Go nuts, get creative. Try not to take yourself too seriously, and really have fun with it. Let me know if you need help “spinning” your act for this theme.
  • Family friendly – It doesn’t have to be Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood, but there will be children in the audience. I would like for their parents to not sue me.
  • Bar – yes! Signature cocktail, plus beer & wine. Everything $5.
  • Bake sale – Proceeds will go towards the cost of renting SLAM for the night. 🙂 Everything will be priced at $3 – please portion accordingly. If you are contributing, please make an index card containing the ingredients so people with allergies don’t die.
  • Backdrop – Bobby, colored silks, Streb hangs
  • Silk colors (all points with swivels) – purple, red, yellow (in that order if you’re looking at the stage)
  • Non-silks – apparatus may be rigged on a pulley w/ swivel for easy in & out. You must tech with Laura at dress rehearsal or prior to the show to set your height.
  • Mats – one panel of mats under truss, open space in front and back. Mats can be moved for ground acts if needed.
  • Lights – no lights up & down – too confusing. You will get into places as I’m doing your intro.
  • Intros and start positions – give me a thumbs up when you’re ready to start.
  • Photographer – Laurie Bloom
  • Video: You may certainly set up your own cameras, and/or have friends video you as well.
  • Volunteers
    • Bar –  Emily
    • Bake sale –

Schedule

Teamwork makes the dream work, my loves! Students – if you are performing in the show, you will need to help with load-in and strike. Before the show, we’ll need to clear & stack mats & put out chairs. After the show, we’ll need to strike chairs, sweep, and re-set mats. If everyone pitches in, this is super quick.

Dress rehearsal (not mandatory, but strongly encouraged. Friends & family who were not able to get tickets may pop in to watch you tech!) – Thursday April 11 from 7:00-10:00. Please let me know a) if you will be attending and b) if you have time constraints (ex: “I cannot be there until after 7” or “I need to leave by 8:30”).

5:00 Call time for all student performers & anyone who needs to tech still:

  • Rigging, hang backdrop
  • 6:00 Quick cast meeting – hold any and all questions until then.
  • Cast clears mats & sets chairs (all hands on deck!)
  • If everything stays on schedule, everyone will have time to do a climb, invert, hook & slide. You will not have time to run your piece before the show. That is what the dress/tech Thursday is for.

6:30 Rehearse opening number & bows

7:30 House & bake sale opens

  • Tickets – SOLD OUT
  • Bake sale & bar – Emily, TBD
  • Front of house –

8:00 Show
